7 Benefits of Choosing an Office Based Surgery Center for Outpatient Surgery
9/23/2024
My staff and I have years of experience providing care in the hospital and in an office-based surgery center. Based on our experience, there are many benefits to patients who choose to have procedures done in our office surgery center rather than in a hospital. Here are 7 of the many benefits:
1. Cost Savings
• Office surgery centers have lower overhead costs than hospitals, resulting in more affordable procedures for patients and insurance providers. The same procedure can be 5 times more expensive in a hospital than in our office surgery center. In addition, patients typically pay less in copays and deductibles for care at an outpatient center than in a hospital.
2. Convenience
• Getting in and out of a hospital for a procedure is a challenge, especially for patients who have limited mobility. Parking garages, elevators, and long corridors are all typical features of the hospital experience. Our office based surgery center has a single floor, plenty of parking immediately in front of the building, and the distance from the parking lot to the procedure area is only a few feet.
3. Efficiency
• Our office surgery center has fewer patients on a daily basis and more streamlined processes than a hospital because we do not have to juggle inpatient and outpatient procedures. Wait times before procedures are minimal, and our patients are discharged almost always within two hours after a procedure.
4. Personalized Care
• Unlike a hospital setting where a single recovery nurse can have three or more patients to care for, our office surgery center has a maximum of one patient per nurse. Patients receive undistracted care from arrival until departure. Patients are not competing with inpatients or emergency cases for time or space.
5. Focused Environment and Specialized Care
• Unlike a hospital where hundreds of different types of surgeries may be performed, our office based surgery center performs a relatively small number of closely related surgeries. Our staff care for similar types of patients receiving similar procedures every day. The result is that patients receive focused, highly skilled, and experienced care from arrival to departure.
6. Reduced Exposure
• Hospitals treat a wide range of patients, many of whom are critically ill. Our office based surgery center focuses entirely on planned, elective procedures on patients who are not actively sick. The risk of unwanted exposure is reduced as a result.
7. Flexible Scheduling
• With no emergency or inpatient cases to compete with and less complexity than a hospital, scheduling a surgery at our office based surgical center is almost always more flexible and convenient for a patient.
For patients undergoing planned, low-risk surgeries, our outpatient surgery centers offer a safe, efficient, high quality, and cost-effective alternative to a hospital.
